InterLibrary Loan

ILL Request Form

If the College does not have some of the information you need, we may be able to borrow materials or obtain photocopies of articles from other libraries for your use.

Interlibrary loan service is extended to all College-affiliated students and employees in good standing. We will request first from free lenders. For more details please see Interlibrary Loan Frequently Asked Questions.

You need to have particular items in mind when you make a request; we cannot obtain everything another library has on your desired subject. The way to identify what resources you need, use one or more of the Research Databases or KCTCS Library Catalog. Then, if we do not have access to your needed item or items locally, you may want to request the information from another library.

Frequently Asked ?

WHAT is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary loan is a service provided by the College Library to obtain materials from other libraries for patron use.

WHO can request ILLs?
WKCTC faculty and staff, students currently enrolled in WKCTC classes, students currently enrolled in MurrSU or UK courses offered in Paducah, current members of the UK Alumni Association, and WKCTCD Board Members may request interlibrary loan services.

Is there a CHARGE?
There may be a charge for photocopies, postage, etc. However, you will be notified ahead of time if a charge is incurred.

What SOURCES do I use to find ILLs?
Usually you will find book and audiovisual titles through the KCTCS Library Catalog. Magazine or newspaper article references are listed through both electronic and paper periodical indexes. For the College Library magazine and newspaper holdings, consult the Periodical Listing. Magazine or newspaper titles that can be obtained locally are not requested through ILL. If requesting from paper indexes, please make photocopies of your requests and take to the Circulation Desk.

Can the Matheson Library ALWAYS obtain what I request?
Almost anything that you could normally check out from our library can be requested from ILL. Books and journal articles are the most commonly requested ILLs. While audio-visuals (AV) can be requested, not all libraries are willing to lend and it may take longer to find and receive AV materials. There are even fewer libraries willing to lend reference books.

If your material cannot be obtained, you will receive a letter in the mail along with the request for loan printout so you will know it is not available.

At this time, we are requesting only from other Kentucky libraries. If the requested title is available in one of these libraries, and included in the lending policy, we can obtain it. Due to staffing constraints, we are unable to extend the search for information beyond this point.

HOW MANY titles can I request through ILL?
To allow everyone an opportunity to receive their requested materials in a timely manner, we will process only 4 requests at a time for one person. If you need more than 4 items, please prioritize them. Determine which ones can wait until one or more of the first group arrives. There is no limit to how many requests you can make during a semester.

HOW do I request ILLs?
Make a printout of the information you need from the KCTCS Library Catalog or a research database. Present your library card and printouts to a staff member at the Circulation Desk.

What if I DON'T HAVE A LIBRARY CARD?
Present your picture I.D. (driver's license) and you will be issued a library card. There is no charge for your first library card. There is a $1 fee for replacement of a lost card.

How will I know WHEN I can pick up ILL material?
Allow at least 7-10 working days for the ILL material to arrive. You will either get a call (local calls only) or a card in the mail stating that your material is available. You may also stop by the Circulation Desk to check on your requests. Please allow at least 5 days after the initial request before follow-up contact is made. Stopping by in person to check on an ILL is the best method. Then any questions may be asked and answered immediately. Stopping by in person is also the fastest way to get your ILLs.

WHERE do I pick up ILLs?
Ask a staff person at the Circulation Desk to assist you. You must present your library card.
